Our Storied History

Schumacher Buick GMC has been a growing presence since its establishment in West Palm Beach in 1971 by Richard Schumacher. Transitioning from a successful Ford dealership in Chicago, Richard swiftly led the business to become Florida's top Buick dealership.

Richard's son, Chuck, took the reins after graduating from Southern Methodist University, where he then expanded the business, opening Bay View Buick in Port Richey, Florida, and soon became the top Buick dealer nationwide. Chuck continued to diversify the business, introducing Oldsmobile in 1989.

In 1997, Chuck further extended the Schumacher brand by purchasing the current Northlake Boulevard location, which now offers Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Pontiac, and GMC, as well as Buick and Oldsmobile. He added Saab to the Palm Beach dealership in 1999, followed by Pontiac and Volkswagen. INFINITI, HUMMER, and Mitsubishi were subsequently introduced, and Chevrolet was most recently added at the Northlake storefront.

Commitment to the Community

At the heart of our values is a strong commitment to community service. Chuck, the Schumacher Auto Group, and our entire team believe in embodying positive corporate citizenship and fostering strong community partnerships. Beyond monetary contributions, Schumacher employees volunteer significant time to local causes. For the past 37 years, we've collaborated with numerous local organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Easter Seals, and the Red Cross, just to name a few.

Contributions like these have helped us garner significant recognition over the years. In 2002, Tom Horne, Florida State Commissioner of Education, awarded Chuck the Commissioner's Business Recognition Award for providing facilities, internships, and supporting an automotive instructor at the Automotive Career Academy.

Chuck was also named General Motors Dealer of the Year for the fifth time in 2008, an honor shared with 108 other dealers nationwide. The same year, he was inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame as their 2006 Pioneer Laureate.
